😫 oh the times of Pretty Ricky 😅 back in college, my friend & now brother was working with them (writing & collab). We somehow ended up in a byob hole in the wall in the depths of the hood from midnight and beyond. Looking back… we had no business being there but it was a time - the vibes were night and it felt like a lil underground Harlem Renaissance.

Hahah this makes me think about yesterday after Writers Circle there was a day party downstairs at the club and they were playing Pretty Ricky! My wife went down to see if they were selling these wings we saw online and she said it was so hood in there so I’m trying to go downstairs to party when my mom comes to town lol.

I wonder why in college we played with our lives the way we did lol.

Oh this brings back so many memories! Chingy makes me chuckle because when I left Missouri in 2003, I didn't realize I had an accent. Yes, plenty of people were tickled by my country accent with the heavy "err" on nearly every -er sounding word. 😄

I love how you are keeping it 100% REAL with sharing your story and striving for what you want. The journey is never easy but each milestone is appreciated.

Keep putting in that work, Love. We see you! 💖

Hahahaha Chingy!!! I immediately hollered when I read the heavy er hahaha I’m country so I’m not going to laugh too hard. Also in Cali everyone sings when they talk so I’m feeling like the country girl lol. 😂

Also thank you! It was good for me to run down my timeline realizing that wow I really been doing this shit. I hadn’t looked that deep into it and I’ve been preparing for this and I knew it but I didn’t know it would be like THIS!

Aw thank you for reading Yanique! Yes I’ve been doing this for a while now but this is the first time my heart was in it only for the creation and the response has been the bonus!

I’m happy to say I’m experiencing contentment for the first time in my life and I love it! 🥰

Thank you for celebrating with me!!! 🎉

Beautiful to read as always Jacquie! Speaking of how our family units are a near 180 from how we grew up is too relatable in a really sad way, but I'm glad you figured out how to light the grill. May I recommend Kingsford Signsture Flavors charcoal for your next cookout? It works pretty damn good! Music is such a foundational stone for our culture, and I loved and vividly remembered all the songs you mentioned! But I don't believe that you weren't bumping Grillz by Nelly?!

Thank you Delise! I love the suggestion I most definitely learned immediately Kingsford charcoal is the way to go so I’m going to look for this one specifically next time!

And who said Grillz by Nelly won’t mixed in there too? I was going to put only one song then I ended up with however many are in there now lol 😂

This was such a fantastic read! I feel like I always go through an array of emotions. There's such a warm quality here - a mix of rawness and tenderhearted moments. Please note I said "like that there" with an accent in my head 🥲🥲 I'm so glad your manifestations have continued to move outwards across mediums! The flow from then to now was so wonderful to witness - I look forward to seeing how you continue to expand. Much love ✨

You capture our blend of music influences so well and that desire to make it rain in the NC (specifically the GSO) diaspora.

One day we need to Zoom and trade stories. I rode that go-go train right on up to DC, but sometimes I wish our first home was a better home. I had that family but the minute I hollered and started to insinuate the gayness, the fam got mad and the homies couldn’t hold me down. Plus, I finished college, twice, and the pay was wack.

I love seeing how you activated the community and I know people are picking up the baton, but how many of us are born, raised coming up out of whatever?

I’m downtown DC too, paying more, but it’s more advantages and I can be here chillin knowing someone is doing what needs to be done while I take my rest breaks.

Oh we definitely have to plan a time to hope on a call because I need to hear the stories!!!! I wonder so often how many of us are there and are we all looking for each other?

Downtown DC I love this! The go-go era had me dreaming to live in the DMV especially with my father living in PG County. You know…

Take your break sis, I’m just getting warmed up! Thank you as always for reading and commenting!!! Let’s schedule that call for real!
